Confirm which DeKalb County and which court

DeKalb County, Georgia and DeKalb County, Illinois have separate record systems. Read the state and court on the citation, charging document or hearing notice before searching. The examples here cover those two jurisdictions; they do not establish that every DeKalb County is in Georgia or Illinois. A Georgia Superior Court file also follows a different copy route from a Georgia State Court misdemeanor.

For an apparent match, preserve the court, case number, defendant, charge, filing date and outcome entry. A name alone is not enough to attribute a case, and a scheduled event is not a final disposition. Use the identified clerk for the order needed to prove the outcome.

Georgia Superior Court: find the file and order the disposition

The Superior Clerk’s Criminal Department links Odyssey Portal. Case events can be viewed without an account; document viewing requires registration and an access request, with the first page available free for preview. Copy requests need the defendant’s full name, case number, birth date, arrest charges and a follow-up phone number or email.

Certified Superior Court Final Dispositions can be collected from the Clerk’s ground-floor office at 556 North McDonough Street, Decatur, GA 30030; call 404-371-2836. The department says final dispositions are entered within 24 hours of the hearing. Confirm that your specific order is ready before traveling, particularly if you need certification immediately.

Superior Court copy prices and electronic certification

The Criminal Department lists ordinary copies at $1 per page and certified copies at $2.50 for the first page plus $0.50 for each additional page. Its listed credit-card surcharge is 2% plus $1. These Superior Court charges should not be applied to State Court or Illinois records.

For eCertification, create an account and submit the document request for clerk review. Electronic delivery is subject to approval and document availability. The published payment window is six days; unpaid requests are automatically rejected and must be resubmitted. Check whether the recipient accepts an electronically certified copy before selecting that format.

Georgia State Court misdemeanors and traffic divisions

For a Georgia State Court criminal misdemeanor, use its own Case Search and Clerk’s Office. Division A’s clerk is at 556 North McDonough Street, second-floor Administrative Tower, Decatur, GA 30030, phone 404-371-2261. Division B’s traffic office is at 3630 Camp Circle, Decatur, GA 30032, phone 404-294-2099. Use the division shown on the case.

State Court’s criminal FAQ lists copies at $1 per page and $5 for a certified copy, payable in cash or money order to State Court of DeKalb County. Ask the clerk how those items apply to your page count. It says records removed to the retention center take at least three business days to retrieve; have the case number ready when asking for an older file.

Restricted records and older Georgia files need a check

State Court says public copies are available unless restricted. For restricted cases, access is limited to the defendant, attorney of record or government agency; sealed records require a petition to the court. Its authorized-copy process requires the case number and government-issued ID, followed by a fee notice and mailed copy after payment. An ordinary search account does not remove those limits.

The Superior criminal page refers pre-2010 documents to Archives, but the Archives page’s introductory age-and-price instructions describe civil cases. For an older criminal file, ask the Criminal Department or Archives at 404-371-2250 to confirm custody and the applicable criminal copy charge. Do not apply a civil divorce-decree fee to a criminal disposition.

Illinois: use the Circuit Clerk’s record system

DeKalb County’s Illinois Circuit Clerk keeps criminal, traffic and other court files. Its Online Records page embeds the court search and lists 815-895-7138 for criminal, DUI, traffic and ordinance inquiries. Start there if the case is in Illinois; a Georgia portal cannot answer whether an Illinois prosecution exists.

The clerk is at 133 W. State Street, Sycamore, IL 60178, with published hours of 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Email [email protected] or call 815-895-7138 with the case number, document and certification needed. The reviewed Illinois pages do not state a complete criminal-copy price or delivery guarantee, so obtain that office’s quote rather than borrowing Georgia’s fees.

Separate police reports, outcomes and corrections

A police narrative belongs to the arresting agency, not automatically the criminal court clerk. Georgia State Court’s FAQ directs local police-report requests to the responsible county or municipal agency. To prove the prosecution’s result, request the court disposition instead and compare it with the search entry’s latest date.

If the document and index disagree, give the correct clerk the precise case and entry for review. A request to correct an error is different from a request to restrict access. Preserve the state and court on every saved copy, and ask the applicable clerk about unavailable material instead of concluding that an empty search proves no criminal history.
